“Today I’m going to share with you some simple ways your preschoolers can enjoy sensory play at home. You don’t need fancy equipment or complicated setups.

Simple Snow Day Activities For 4 Year Olds

All of these activities can be put together in just a few minutes and will (hopefully) keep your 4 year old entertained for a while.

It is important to remember that all children are different and while some may sit and participate in a sensory bin for an hour, others may play for 5 minutes and participate.

If your 4-year-old prefers to run around rather than sit during the activity, that’s okay too. All children need downtime or quiet time in their routine. These activities are perfect for this time of day.

That being said, regardless of your child’s interests (sports, construction, pretend play, etc.), sensory play is important for all children. This type of hands-on play, in which children manipulate various variables with their hands, teaches a variety of topics.

And if you’re looking for weeks of “planned-for-you” activities, I started using the preschool playbook with my girls and it has changed my life.

Although most of these ideas work well as independent activities for 4 year olds, it’s always good to keep an eye out for them, especially when they involve small sensory objects.

The term “sensory bin” sounds fancy, but it’s as simple as pouring cooked rice into a plastic bin and adding a few spoonfuls!

It’s complicated, but it’s a super fun activity to do at home for 4 year olds. My 2.5 year old son also participated (and made even more damage).

If you don’t want to clean neon paint from your kitchen table, this is a fun and messy activity for preschoolers.

Please note that this activity is not suitable for toddlers or preschoolers, who may put the beads in their mouths, as this poses a choking hazard.

So many people ask me my opinion on the news, I don’t have much to say – I’ve been slowly catching up on coronavirus news on Twitter since December (if you don’t need a mental break from media’ Twitter). But never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen in Canada, hey here we are taking precautionary measures to give a boost to our healthcare system.

So I pulled our oldest out of school and excused her from the last week of school before spring break – some provinces extend spring break by an additional 2 weeks. If this happens in Alberta, children will stay home for 4 weeks if parents decide to remove their children before spring break.

I know many parents are tearing their hair out by the end of the first week, so I wanted to share with you some of my favorite indoor activities for babies!
