The holidays are right around the corner, and we all know it’s a crazy time in the classroom. I choose to embrace the chaos of December and enjoy some rare entertainment. Today I’m sharing 15 tips and tricks for classroom elves.
Elf On The Shelf Ideas For Classroom
I always see our class on our tree on the first day. It’s great to see the excitement when you see it. After his presentation, I grouped the children and gave each group a name. Then each group shares their choices and we choose the best of the class.
Elf In The Classroom Ideas
Back in the classroom on the first day of December, our elves carry their calendar cards in a bag with special notes. And he circled the calendar all day.
I use this Elf font to make notes. Our crazy elf likes to hack class dojo accounts and change their avatar pictures. Transfers can be made to student accounts. I used a stick figure. You can use images saved on your computer.
One of my favorite tricks is when it goes into the inbox. I cover the elves in stickers and put them all over the room on their desks, pencils, door frames…
Do not put tape around it. You never know what your crazy soul will bring you. I came in one day and he was on our class clock.
Elf On The Shelf Ideas From Miq (lockdown) & Freedom
A chest of drawers is the best bed. He fell asleep one day and they thought it was funny to catch him while he was sleeping!
One day our class was so loud that he took off his ear muffs. Then he leaves a note on our blackboard to remind the students of their behavior.
I heated pom-poms on a pipe cleaner to make earmuffs. Then I put hot glue to attach it to his ears. Easy to understand. I tried the tape and it didn’t hold well.
Every time they think it’s fun, an elf will do it. Here he dives into the VIP table furniture and writes it all down.

Don’t be afraid to take the shine off! Use it to make snow angels. Your guards will love you for it.
Grab a plastic cup and let your elf build a tower. Add more cups and let your students build their own towers for even more fun.

Some teachers (and parents) use the Elf on the Shelf to monitor bad behavior, but with a focus on good behavior, you can include the Elf on the shelf, in the classroom or other visitors to PBIS or similar programs. During the holidays, try to place the guests every day in a “comfortable” place in the classroom.
Instead of wandering around every night, the friendly elf can add points to the class price chart or place them randomly on the students’ desks. Make sure your elf is trusted with gift boxes!
