Ikea Home Ideas – There’s nothing like an IKEA Fall 2021 store to get my design-loving heart beating faster. I have loved IKEA for as long as I can remember. No, really – wandering the huge warehouses on a quiet Tuesday night is a form of therapy for me (it’s so peaceful and quiet). Also, I literally picked up and shipped an IKEA watch from South Korea (!) as it has been discontinued here in the US, but that’s a story for another day…! Remember when I went backstage at the IKEA store photo studio in 2013? Wow, that was a lot of fun. Seven years later, I’m still excited about the brand. Here are eight design ideas from the 2021 IKEA catalog that I’m inspired to try at home:
Whether it’s dark walls (lots of navy blue and limestone charcoal) or dark furniture (think: jet gray and oak), it’s fair to say there’s plenty of inspiration in the 2021 IKEA catalog for decorating with dark colors.

The fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian (Japandi) design is a trend that is becoming increasingly popular in the design world. If you’ve loved the abundance of rats and teenagers in designer stores over the past few years, the IKEA 2021 catalog won’t disappoint because it’s full of them. From armchairs and coffee tables to vases and storage trays, you’ll easily get your hands on these boho fabrics. If you’re looking elsewhere, this is a great place to start.
Listen, 2020 was a year! Why not relax a little and take the opportunity to decorate? After all, they can pay big design dividends. Print can seem intimidating, but if you stick to color choices and mix up the scale of your prints, chances are you’ll end up with a striking, unique space that works. Accent with another color (like the green polka dot pillow in the blue room below) for an extra layer of color and pattern.
OK, technically sage won’t save us BUT it might save your decor! This soft green pops up everywhere, so I wasn’t surprised to see it front and center in this IKEA kitchen. I love how it combines with the warm wood paneling in the ceiling and the bright and airy birch dining table and chairs. So Scandinavian and soothing!
Working at home? Yes me too. Small apartment? Yes me too. Urgently need to upgrade your WFH despite your small footprint? Yes me too. Fortunately, the IKEA 2021 catalog is full of creative ideas for home office solutions in small spaces. I love the one they did inside the closet. You can also hide all the mess and work at the end of the day. I also love this mini desk.
Home Ideas & Inspiration
Red is a great accent color in an all-white room. Surrounded by pure white, little means going far. Think: a cart in the kitchen or storage in the hall. If you need a red home trailer, this works fine.
If this were 2012, I would expect to see an industrial kitchen like the one below in the IKEA catalog. Subway white tiles with black grout, task lighting, factory pendants, open shelving – this space has all the hallmarks of the industrial style kitchen we saw all the time eight or nine years ago. I, for one, am happy to see this industrial look on the rise again, it has a timeless and effortlessly stylish feel. Now we just need to find a kitchen big enough to recreate all that space…
